Santoshi Mata, meaning the mother of contentment, is a relatively recent Hindu female divinity. She belongs to the family of Shiva and Parvati, and is the daughter of Ganesha and Mata Riddhi. She can be benevolent as well as awesome.
The believers of idol worship in Hindus have great faith in one of the incarnations of Shakti (Durga Devi) in Santoshi Maa. She is worshipped on every Friday by her devotees and is believed to be the bestower and fulfiller of every desires of life.

Maa Santoshi an emblem of mery and kindness...one who fasts for continous 16 fridays...gets rid of all kind of obstacles in life....This vrat is quite different from others... You have to be very careful. Women observe a fast and take their meals in the evening. They include a one time meal that can be rice, dal, chapaties anything but without anything sour in it. You should not eat anything sour on the day. Dont eat curd, imli or anything which includes curd and imli or any kind of sour stuff. Fridays in the month of Shravan are especially auspicious.

Goddess Durga is worshipped and offered a naivedyam of sweets. A Brahmin and a married woman are invited for meals. The married woman is given haldi-kumkum , milk, sugar and roasted gram. You cannot have imli, curd, lemon. It is so believed that fasting and praying for her for 16 consecutive Fridays brings peace and prosperity in ones life. She is also considered to be an incarnation of Mother Durga and is widely worshipped through out India and rest of the world...
